I’ve always loved working with wood, I must of got this from my Dad. So when my dad’s 70th birthday came around, I decided to make him a special gift: a table made from scratch.
I started by gathering the materials I needed. All the wood was recycled wood from skids and pallets, as I know my dad likes to use off cuts and recycled woods.
Once I had all the materials, I started building the table. I followed my plan that I draw up it had to be different from the normal type of table so instead of having 4 legs that went down to the floor i decided to make the lags of a 45 degree angle, I also added my own personal touches. For example, I carved the initials ‘HAPPY 70TH BIRTHDAY DAD’ into the a piece of wood and put this in the middle.
It took me a week to finish the table, but it was worth it. When I was finally done, I was really proud of my work. The table was sturdy and beautiful, and I knew that my dad would love it.
I gave the table to my dad on his 70th birthday, and he was absolutely thrilled. He said it was the best gift he had ever received.
I’m so glad that I was able to make my dad a special gift that he will cherish for years to come. It was a labour of love, and it was worth every minute.
Here are some of the things I learned while making the table:
- It’s important to have a plan. Even if you’re not an experienced woodworker, you can still build a beautiful piece of furniture if you have a plan to follow.
- Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes when they’re learning something new. The important thing is to learn from your mistakes and keep going.
- Take your time and enjoy the process. Building a piece of furniture is a rewarding experience, so don’t rush through it. Take your time and enjoy the process.
If you’re thinking about making a table for someone special, I encourage you to go for it. It’s a great way to show someone how much you care. And who knows, you might even learn something new along the way.
